St Lucie Inlet Sandbar Boat Cruise
There are very few inlets on the Eastern seaboard of the United States that offer the opportunity that the St. Lucie Inlet in Stuart FL offers.
If your looking to visit the St. Lucie Inlet Sandbar by boat, the Honu offers a fun boat tour of the sandbar that you and your guests will love.
Due to the ever shifting shoals associated with the landscape of the Saint Lucie Inlet, it offers a unique environment available in less than 10 inlets up and down the coast.
This boat trip provides a great place that offer locals and visitors alike the perfect opportunity to pull up an enjoy a fun day on the “beach”.
Walk along the 100s of boats that simply ease up to the sandbar and drop the “hook” (anchor) to secure their place for the day.
While the St Lucie sandbar is a special place for locals, you will always find several “Yankees” or “Snowbirds” among the participants since this is a favorite spot for the locals to bring visiting family and friends.
The sandbar offers a friendly atmosphere to people watch, boat watch and just get out and enjoy the sun in this awesome setting.
On Honu, we find the best part of visiting the sand bar are the following:
- Meeting People: Just stop and say hi to anyone on the sandbar and the conversation is off and running. It seems that everyone that participates at the sandbar is so easy to engage. Discussing boats, or where folks originally hail from is an easy conversation starter that has created many lasting relationships for us over the past 20 years.
- Mangroves: One of the hidden gems at the St. Lucie Inlet Sandbar is the mangroves on the main sandbar. At low to mid-tide, this area can be explored from inside the mangroves, giving you a first-hand look at just why so many fish live amongst this intricate and beautiful structure.
- Dogs! If you have or love dogs, this is the perfect place to bring them for a fun day at the beach. Because the sandbar is isolated, there is no worry about your dog running away. They can roam and interact with other dogs and people on the island and just be dogs.
There are usually 3 or 4 islands that can be used for pulling up. The main island is directly across from the amazingly beautiful Walgreens Pharmacy estate. While these shoals change from year to year, there are usually other sandbars behind the large mangrove island (which offers a lazy river effect on incoming tides) and also closer to the inlet which is sometimes prohibitive of landing due to tide and weather conditions.
In the summertime, you can usually count on at least 200-300 boats on any given Saturday or Sunday in good weather. On holiday weekends, all bets are off…upwards of 800 boats on a nice Fourth of July weekend. Always a fun party!
If you book a full-day tour, we will also bring you to boyscout island which is located a mile away from the sandbar on the intracoastal waterway. This is an awesome experience that offers clean white sand and an entire island to explore.
Join us on Honu for a fun day of exploring all of the sandbars St. Lucie inlet has too offer; and bring your dog! We hope you will find it just as hard to leave at the end of the day as we do; hopefully you will leave with more friends that you started!
We also offer overnight trips that include an enchanted evening on the hook under the stars right by the sandbar.
