Peanut Island Sandbar Boat Cruise
Peanut Island is an island directly West of the Lake Worth Inlet in West Palm Beach. The island has been a local hangout since it was created in the early 1900’s from a dredging project for the inlet.
In 2005 a $13 million renovation on the island in added camp site and a man-made reef. This artificial reef is an awesome spot to snorkel and you are bound to see many species of fish as well as manatee. If the weather is calm we make a side trip to the inlet and snorkel the jetty where the fish life is even better. It’s the perfect place for a day trip.
Peanut Island was also the location of a fallout shelter created for President Kennedy shortly after his election since he spent a good deal of time in the area. Unfortunately, funds have run out to keep this gem up, so it’s now closed to the public. As of 2017 The Port of Palm Beach has assumed control of the Kennedy Bunker and are unable to determine if they will be opening it back up to the public.
Peanut Island is a great stop for a few hours or to spend the whole day or even overnight.
There are so many places to explore on and off the island and sandbar. When you book your trip on Honu, we will discuss all of your options and offer you the best day on the water possible.
